Hello. I’ve been working for about 15 years at a senior/lead level as a digital User Interface and Interaction Designer. I'm also a highly competant Flash/AIR developer.
I work both client- and agency-side, and over the years have been lucky enough to be involved in all sorts of projects for a wide variety of clients both high-profile and niche.
UI & Interaction Design
I like clean, user-centric interface design. I love grids. I like ‘invisible’ design. Regardless of the touchpoint, I believe that what the user doesn’t see matters as much as what they do.
I work across desktop website and interactive design and more recently touchscreen mobile and tablet UI design and interaction.
AS3/AIR Development
Flash & AIR apps for web, desktop, mobile or kiosk, I love building them! I do:
- AS2/3 for FlashPlayer & AIR
- OOP/XML/JSON
- Games/Apps/Microsites
- FlashDevelop / FlashBuilder
- Good working knowledge of JScript, PHP, CSS.
In my last few permanent positions I have headed up teams of designers and developers and often adopted the role of digital Art Director - but I really love getting my hands dirty, and I find that freelancing affords me that 'hit'.
When I'm not working, I'm a big music fan, festival-goer, motorcycle rider, some-time traveller and technology geek.
I live in South East London, and can work on-site, from home or from a studio in Clerkenwell.
Whatever I'm working on, I try to adhere to KISS/Agile principles, even if the interface is complex, or adventurous in form.
I'm as happy working on wireframes and protypes as I am on pure front-end UI design, and I have much respect for UX and user-centric design in general.
I use all the usual suspects in terms of software - which essentially means the Adobe Creative Suite - and I consider myself to be expert-level in Flash and Photoshop.
My first exposure to Flash was back when it was 'Futuresplash' and I played around with it at college.
Since then it's been a permanent fixure in the toolbox, and I've become very adept at developing AS. I've been fortunate enough to have worked with some bona fide Flash 'guru's' from whom I've learnt much.
The landscape is changing for Flash, but I'm still very interested in it's application via AIR for rapid multi-device product deployment, and for online gaming.
