Regulator / rectifier mod

I did the famed regulator / rectifier mod.  As standard, the r/r is connected to the loom, and travels all the way around the bike before getting to the battery, losing a volt or two en route.  This mod connects the r/r directly to the battery via a big fuse, reducing any lost charge.  Detailed thread here.   I also fitted an LED voltage indicator, thusly:

18000 Mile Service

Posted on March 12th, 2010 by by Neil

Mileage: 18133

Standard 18000 mile service at Carl Rosners again, plus new rear EBC again, and strip and clean front calipers*.  Also new chain and sprockets.  £525.  Ouch.  Rosners overfilled the coolant, and didn’t bother to check the brake fluid after de-binding the front calipers – so that the brake lever was pulling right back to the bar.  Tch tch.  Put new brake fluid in and bled the system myself.  Good news is the brakes are good again after months of being crap.  I’m too lazy.

First MOT must be due soon.

* Edit 02/08/10  -  I’ve just had the calipers off and found that this hadn’t been done either.  I wonder what else they didn’t do properly. Last time I use Carl Rosners.

OT: CS4, AS3 and dynamically embedding fonts

This is a classic example of the kind of frustrations yer average amateur punter can face when using Flash CS4.

You’re trying to use an embedded font which ( you think ) you have added to your library, and set to export for use with Actionscript.  However, when you try use that font dynamically with either TextFormat() or a StyleSheet() or whatever, the font will not display.  It usually happens with fonts like Helvetica, Frutiger etc.  You end up jumping through hoops and using ‘alternative methods’ to get your font to display correctly – and it’s a enough to make you want to jump out of the nearest window.

Well I finally figured out what is going on… (more…)
